Moving Rascular software between computers

If the PC you’re using to run Rascular software should fail for some reason, it’s important to have your configuration, license and data files backed up so you can be up and running as quickly as possible on a new machine.

Backing up your configuration files

This document lists the relevant files and directories for each product that you should regularly back up. Folder names may vary depending on the Windows localization and language settings.

  • Helm
    • Licence files:  C:\Program Files (x86)\Rascular\Helm Designer\*.lice
    • Settings: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Rascular\HELM_Designer\HELM_DESIGNER.INI
    • Your panel design files, which have a .HELM extension.
  • RouteMaster, RouteMaster NDI and RouteMaster Lite
    • Directory names will vary between product variants, but the files are all compatible
    • Licence files:  C:\Program Files (x86)\Rascular\RouteMaster-???\*.lice
    • Settings: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Rascular\RouteMaster-???\*.JSON
    • Web Panels, if not using WebCentre: C:\ProgramData\Rascular\WebPanels\*
    • Optionally for NDI, the router crosspoint state. C:\ProgramData\Rascular\RouteMaster-???\NDIState.json
  • WebCentre
    • Licence file. C:\Program Files (x86)\Rascular\Rascular WebCentre\webcentre.lice
    • NGINX configuration files. C:\Program Files (x86)\Rascular\Rascular WebCentre\conf
    • User and Panel database. C:\Program Files (x86)\Rascular\Rascular WebCentre\storage\webcentre.sqlite

Installing software onto the new machine

Registered users can download the current and archived software versions directly from our support website.

Use of the latest software requires a valid support contract, and will not run if the license does not allow it. Therefore, we strongly recommend you keep a safe copy of the actual software installer that you’ve used. Rascular cannot guarantee the availability of archived versions for download in future.

Running the installer is straightforward, and just requires acceptance of the license terms.

Restoring the configuration

After installing the software, you should restore the license, configuration and database files that you previously backed up.

For WebCentre systems, your should also Restart NGINX after restoring the configuration files. Type “Restart NGINX” into the windows search box to locate the action for this

Using Virtual Machines

We recommend the use of virtual machines for running RouteMaster and WebCentre. The virtual machine can then be run on a different hardware platform, with all licenses, configuration and data automatically available.
