Getting started with HELM control of LYNX 5000 series cards

HELM has comprehensive control of LYNX 5000 series cards, via the 5030 master controller.

You can evaluate Helm control of Lynx equipment using the LYNX C3Local simulation software. Instructions for setting this up can be found here.

If you are controlling real LYNX frames (rather than a simulation) then all the 5031 controllers must have the appropriate Remote Control option installed (OS_RSLRCTI). This is available from LYNX, not from Rascular. You can check for this option using the Lynx C3Local software.

Scanning the frames

From Helm, drop a “LYNX Technik Frame” device onto your panel, and set the IP_Address property to the 5031 controller (or “localhost”, if you are simulating with C3Local on the same PC).

Helm must now scan the controller for all available cards, and construct a metadata database for each one. This may take a minute or so, but should only be required once. You’ll see a dialog showing the progress of the scan.

If your 503x frame controller is controlling a ‘stack’ of linked frames, then all frames in the stack will be scanned.

If you add further Lynx cards to the frame at a later stage, you will need to re-scan it before you can control the new cards with Helm. To do this, right-click on the frame in Helm Designer, and select Rescan Frame… from the Special menu.

Once the frame is scanned, you must add a card icon representing a specific card slot that you wish to control. Set the “Frame” property to the required frame, then choose the Card from a drop-down list.

Adding Visual Controls

You can then add visual controls to the panel, and link them to card properties via their “PropertyLink” setting.

This screencast video shows the process of building a simple panel from scratch.
